Empathy + Music = Cultural Understanding

Cultural Understanding through music is based on Empathy. If it were not for emotions and feelings, then people would only be interested in music for its sound. Focusing only on sound would not help with cultural understanding because without feeling any emotional connection people will not feel the need to try to understand the other culture. Since people with higher empathy have a better time at processing social issues, as shown in studies, this proves that feeling and musical connecting can help with social acceptance and interest in other cultures. I think empathy has the largest influence on cultural understanding through music.
